"See, we can sit and stay!"
About 20 years ago I met my first fox terrier and I knew I had to have one, but it was a long time comming.
In between, I lived where dogs weren't allowed. Then came "Reggie", my previous cocker spaniel. He was a second hand dog from an abuse situation, but we loved each other and when he needed a home, I took him. He couldn't be trusted with children, other dogs, or strangers. I lost him 2 1/2 years ago. He got hemolytic anemia, (body kills its own red blood cells), combined with a degenerative spinal problem, and then he tore a cruciate ligament. He would not have survivied surgery with no immune system.
So, I had to make that awful decision.
I was going to wait awhile before the next dog, (you know how that goes), but my house was too quiet!
The Fox Terrier thoughts were comming back! I really couldn't afford a pup from a breeder, so I called a purebred rescue organization just to ask some questions. Three weeks later, I had Brandy. She came from a breeder in eastern Washington, who was down-sizing her kennel, as her husband had a stroke and needed most of her time.
I got to see the kennel, as I was headed in that direction on my vacation, and saw Brandy's parents, litter mates and so forth.
Two of her brothers had been shown and were already finished, had all their points at a year old. Brandy could probably have been shown, but that isn't my idea of fun, though I do like to go to an occasional show. Brandy spent her first 2 weeks with me on a camping trip, not knowing where she was going, from one day to the next. It was fun for me to see her experiences in "life on the outside", after being a kennel dog!
Jinny is also a second hand dog.

One of my neighbors here had her. I was with him when he chose her from the litter. He wanted a cocker so bad, he went to a backyard breeder, and she looks it, but her disposition is wonderful and she loves everyone. My dog, Reggie, did finally become her friend and I used to walk them together when Elvin, her owner, became ill. We also went camping together a few times. So, when Elvin passed away, I told his family I would take her, as none of them could. Jinny is the barker in this house. She barks at everything and nothing. I don't think Brandy would ever bark if Jinny didn't start it! But, Brandy is the "alpha dog". She starts all the games, trouble, etc. and she decides which dog sleeps where in the bed or on the couch. Jinny just says "OK, what ever"! So that's our story. I never got to choose names for any of my dogs, but somehow they were all ment for me anyway.("Just like we, me and Pepper were ment for our mom and dad, Katie!" says The Fox.)
