On Wednesday, May 20, when he was just 3 days old, Chip almost died.
Our Mom went in to check on him before taking Fox to class. He seemed fine, but when she checked again, just before leaving, he was laying in the welping box, not moving.
Mom dove in and picked him up. He was cold. Very cold. And hardly breathing.
She could feel his little heart beating, but she knew it wouldn't continue unless she acted fast!
She called Dad and he came running with a warm towel. They wrapped Chip in the towel and Dad heated some formula.
Slowly, drop by warm drop, Mom fed Chip. We, Fox, Cookie and I, sat and watched as Mom talked to Chip and fed him the warm formula.
Dad got the heating pad out and they put Chip on it. All night long Mom and Dad worked with Chip. By morning he was warm and able to suck again. They took him to the vet. No one knows exactly what happened, but Chip was saved.
A week later, when he had his tail docked he REALLY began to eat. His sucking mechanism went into effect properly and he ate ALL NIGHT!
