Training

Lil Chip

My training actually began with The Fox. He was my first teacher. He explained the workings of the dog door and insisted that I use it to go outside to potty. He caught me potting in the house, once, and that was enough! He yelled at me and pushed me toward the door. When I didn't want to go, he ran around me and used his body to make me move in the direction he wanted. I was very little, but it worked. Then he used his head and pushed me out the dog door.

When I tried to get back in, he put his mouth on my scruff and made me go to the potty place. I didn't like that, but went and it made Fox happy. It is easier to make The Fox happy than it is to win an arguement with him. The only person he listens to is Mom.

As I grew, Mom said I needed more training, so we started classes. I went to the big school that The Fox goes too. I learned obedience, which isn't so hard, and I entered agility class! I like obedience, if we don't use up too much time, but I love agility. My best pal, Chase, a merle Austrailian Shepherd and I do all the obstacles and jumps. Then, while we wait for our next sequence, we do sits and down together. Obedience is more fun when you have a friend with you.

We worked for months, and then Mom and Dad began packing up my stuff. They packed The Fox's, Pepper's and Cookie's stuff, too. We put it all in the van, and took a very long drive.

It was late before we arrived at a place where we unloaded everything into a little room with beds in it. I jumped on all the beds. It was so much fun!

The next morning we went to a big grassy place and I was measured. I didn't like it much, so I stood on my tippy toes! That showed them that I am a very big boy! The Fox let them measure him and then we went to our crates.

When the time came, Dad got me out and I walked an agility course with Mom. Oh, Boy! We where at an agility trial!

When my turn came, I started to run, then I saw it. NO FENCES! I ran to the grassy area. I heard Mom calling, but I smelled something strange. There was a big track and the smell was coming from it. I started toward it when some strange man came toward me. The Fox has always said, "Stay away from strange men when Mom and Dad aren't around", so I ran back to Mom. She put my lead on and we finished the course. Not so much fun as runing where ever I wanted, but still fun.

Lots of things have happened since I was last allowed to use the computer. Fox keeps it busy and won't let anyone else use it. He'a a 'puter pig!

I'm quite a big boy, now, but haven't run at anymore trials. I am the demo dog in the puppy class that my Mom helps with, so I get to show off quite a bit. And, Mom is playing a game with me that I love. She has a box that she sits in the middle of the floor and I do things with it. When I roll in around, I get a click and a treat!

We're working on loose lead walking. As long as I stay near Mom, and my collar isn't tight, we walk. When I pull, Mom stops and won't budge until I go back and sit or stand beside her. When I do that, she gives me a click and a treat. I try to stay close to mom, 'cause I love those clicks and treats!

On Monday, November first, Dad took me to my vet's office and LEFT ME!!!! The put me in a crate, and I didn't like it, not even a little bit. Then they took me out of the crate, gave me a shot, shaved my tummy and then gave me a sniff of something and I don't know what happened, but when I woke up, I was back in the crate! I had to stay there for HOURS!

But, Mom and Dad came and got me. Boy, was I ever happy to see them!

I slept in the car on the way home, and Mom gave me some baby meat to eat. I had not eaten for DAYS (well, maybe it was only hours) and I was starved. They put me in my crate, and I was so tired I curled up and went to sleep.

When it was time for bed, I came out of my crate, jumped up on the bed and slept again.

I don't know what my vet did, but I heard Dad say it looked like they did a good job of neutering?
